Henry Hobbs and Leon Atkins attended the British Cycling Awards in Manchester last month. This is typically an annual event where champions across all disciplines are recognised for their achievements and collect their respective trophies.
The 2023 edition of the awards were slightly different due to the fact that this was the first awards event since Covid-19 and so certificates were being given out for achievements dating back to 2021 whilst current champions collected certificates and silver.
Henry was presented with 2 certificates for winning the 2021 Under 14 National Youth Omnium Championship and 2021 Under 14 National Circuit Race Championship.
Leon was presented with 6 certificates for his achievements in the Under 14 category – 2021 & 2022 MTB National Championship, 2022 MTB National Series, 2022 Cyclocross National Championship, 2022 Cyclocross National Trophy Series, 2022 National Circuit Racing Championship. Leon was also presented with the Under 14 National road race trophy win which has the familiar names of Geraint Thomas and Mark Cavendish engraved on it!
Leon was also invited to the 2022 Cycling Time Trials Champions Lunch to collect another award though was unable to attend due to the clash with Cyclocross National Champs. Leon won the 2022 Juvenile Closed Circuit 10 mile TT National Championship; as he could not attend the lunch he was recently sent his much coveted gold cap, champs jersey and engraved medal with his name and winning time engraved on the reverse.
