Derny Pacer Accreditation Course – 11th May

Ever wanted to take the lead in a keirin or training session with confidence and skill? This Derny Pacing Accreditation Course is your gateway to learning the art of pacing and earning a Class C or Class B licence upgrade

Whether you’re a coach, track rider, or cycling enthusiast looking to enhance your skillset, this hands-on course will teach you everything from Derny mechanics and safety protocols to expert pacing techniques in training and racing. You’ll gain real track experience, learn to ride in a group environment, and build the confidence to control the Derny.

With expert instruction and a structured assessment, this is your chance to step up and become a Derny pacer.

Duration: 4-5 hours start 12:00pm

Full Course Information

Delivered by The British Pacing Association on behalf of British Cycling. This is a continuous assessment course after which successful participants will be recommended for licence upgrade as appropriate:

  • Class C accreditation which permits the candidate to use a Derny for
    pacing riders in training sessions and keirins only.
    Or
  • Class B accreditation which permits the candidate to use a Derny for
    pacing riders in training sessions, keirins and in races.

Candidates will learn:

  • The basic construction of a Derny
  • Basic Maintenance of a Derny – What to touch and what to leave alone!
  • Safety aspects of using a Derny both in training and in competition
  • Racing protocols

Candidates will demonstrate:

  • The ability to start and stop a Derny
  • The ability to ride a Derny in a controlled manner
  • Confidence in riding a Derny in a group environment
  • Confidence in overtaking
  • Confidence in riding a Derny in different areas of the track
