Young Volunteer of the Year Award for Rebecca

Rebecca Maynard was presented with the Eastern Region Young Volunteer of the Year Award at the Go Ride Conference on March 13th, by GB British Cycling Senior Academy riders Ryan Owens (a former Welwyn Wheelers member) and Jack Carlin.

The award was in recognition for her outstanding contribution as a volunteer both at a national & local level.
Rebecca has recently completed a second term on the National Youth Forum which advises British Cycling on raising awareness of the sport in the community to cyclists and non-cyclists alike.

She has volunteered an international and national events most recently acting as a Results Assistant at the World Track Championships and as a Team Attache for the Eastern Team at the UK School Games.

On a local level she has officiated at races, provided assistance to coaches at training sessions and sits on the Welwyn Wheelers committee as the Youth Representative.

Another positive set of results at the weekend

A number of the Welwyn Wheelers youth riders competed in 2nd second of the Milton Keynes circuit series on Saturday.

The Under 16 girls race had a strong field of 35 riders – Millie Gage was on good form taking second place with Lauren Higham 6th and Elspeth Grace 9th. Will Raymond was 4th in the Under 16 boys while Olli Stockwell was second in the Under 14 boys event just losing out in the sprint finish. Euan Woodlife riding in the under 12 race attacked at the bottom of the hill in the final lap and opened up a gap but was caught in the last 30 metres and finished 4th in his first race in this category. Next up were the under 10 group – Thomas Dixon was 7th and Rupert Cavill 9th In the 4th category senior race earlier in the day Keith Stockwell made a lone breakaway attempt for a number of laps but was reeled in in the final stage of the race and finished 7th.

On Sunday Olli Stockwell and Nathan Blackmore travelled to Bicester for the Zappi circuit race Olie won the race and Nathan was 10th.

On Saturday the Wheelers hosted the final round of the Muddy Monsters cyclo-cross series at Gosling Sports Park for young less experience riders – 36 riders competed in the three race event in the various age groups. The series included two races at Welwyn, two at Ashwell and others at Huntingdon and Cambridge with the best four races to score for the overall result. The series encouraged young cyclo-cross riders to gain experience before embarking on the more advanced winter based League events


Order your Club Kit for the new Racing Season!

Most of the popular items of Welwyn Club kit are currently in stock: jerseys, bib shorts, skinsuits etc. but don’t delay as stock may sell out. Details on the kit order form.

With the summer in mind, we will be placing a new order for club kit at the end of this month. If you require anything we do not currently have at the moment please make sure you place your order as soon as possible. (N.B. We may have to place minimum orders for some items). This new order is expected to arrive by the end of May.

So, if you would like any items of Welwyn cycle clothing for the new racing season or even thinking ahead to Assen…then please order these items now.

Please send completed kit order forms and payment by cheque, made out to Welwyn Wheelers, direct to me. My address is shown on the order form. You can also complete an order form and pass this to Peter Waghorn at one of our training sessions, not forgetting to include payment. Peter will then forward this on to me.
Orders for kit which is not in stock must be received by noon on 31st March.
